Good food, designed intentionally & enjoyed together in very pretty places

Meals at Arathusa are about coming together to share a table and enjoy the simple pleasure of eating well.

Dining here is relaxed and unpretentious. Food is prepared with care, served consciously, and enjoyed at an easy pace. The focus is on pleasure, nourishment, comfort, and togetherness, aligning with the rhythm of the day rather than interrupting it.

Our Approachto Food

Food at Arathusa is made by people who care deeply about what they do. The kitchen team is mostly drawn from surrounding communities, growing together over time through hands-on training and mentorship guided by an internationally accredited culinary consultant. The result is food that is as skilled as it is sincere – almost everything made from scratch, using fresh ingredients sourced as close to the lodge as possible. From breads and preserves to sauces and ice cream, you will taste the care in every meal.

You’re in for a Treat

You’re in for a Treat

Menus at Arathusa are designed to surprise a little and satisfy completely. Each day brings something different – lunches that are fresh and varied, dinners that are more composed. South African ingredients and flavours run through everything: venison carpaccio with granadilla dressing, bobotie spring rolls with banana-honey yoghurt, pinotage reductions, dukkah and tahini. The cooking is globally literate without losing its sense of place – made from scratch, balanced, and properly thought through.

The Rhythm of Meals

The Rhythm of Meals

Meals follow the flow of the safari day.

Mornings begin with coffee and a light refreshment before heading out on game drive. A relaxed breakfast (continental and cooked to order) follows on return, with time to sit, enjoy the view, and ease into the day.

Lunch is unhurried and shared, offering fresh, seasonal dishes enjoyed at a comfortable pace. Afternoon tea signals the transition back into the bush, while evenings are centred around dinner, where you’ll gather to reflect on the day and enjoy good food in easy company.

Where You’ll Eat

Where You’ll Eat

Dining at Arathusa is flexible and adapts naturally to the day, the weather, and the mood.

Meals may be enjoyed in the outdoor dining area, indoors, on the lawn, in the cellar, or around the fire pit. At times, breakfast and dinner are served out in the bush, with coffee stops and sundowners welcome fixtures during morning and afternoon game drives.

The setting may change, but the atmosphere remains relaxed and welcoming.
